Frivol No. 1 & No. 2 ! ...

Frivols are here!

What are Frivols?  Frivols are these collectable tins by Moda containing their newest size of precut....7x7inch squares and more!

Frivols No. 1 contains the fabric from 'Hello, Darling' collection by Bonnie & Camille, a 'Kindred' quilt pattern and a bonus Frivol or two!

With background needed of 1.5 yards, and more for binding and backing- it's not quite a complete quilt kit.  The quilt, ' Kindred', will finish at at about 42 x 42 inches. The directions are simple to follow and are printed in colour with illustrations to help keep you on track.

Fun extras in this Frivol include; an extra block pattern to make with your own fabric and it lists 2 sizes, 4 &1/2 inch or 6 inch finished block.  On that pattern card, there is a inspirational quotation.  Making these extra blocks will lead to a fun sampler quilt, Moda is calling, 'Maker'.  Also included in this first tin, is some twill tape, also fun and frivolous.

I think we let the 'goods out of this tin' for this 1st one!  It's hard to explain if you cannot see it and make a purchasing descion based on a tin wrapped in plastic is hard.  They will retail for $64.95 plus tax.

We have 5 tins only to sell.  I'm not sure if I can get more or not, so if you are intrigued or interested, drop in for a closer look or contact us by email or phone to reserve one for yourself!

Not to let moss grow under their feet, launching in Canada with No 1 Frivols is No 2 Frivols!  Again, only 5 are available for sale at Mrs P's at this current time.  Mrs P's will have the next set of Frivols as they become available!

A quick picture of Frivol No 2.....

A Minick & Simpson line, Polka Dots & Paisleys ! The quilt pattern for this design is ' Faithful' and a couple of Frivols round out the tin!

No 2 needs only binding and backing for additional fabric required but it finishes at 26 x 26 inches, a bit smaller than the Frivol No 1.

A fun little tin that gives a lot of inspiration!

Very Warm but Open Sat! ...

Yes, Mrs P's is open this Sat - from 10am til 1pm!  I'm hopeful this will be regular hours.  I will post if I cannot be open.

Since it's so hot here, maybe some snowman fabric will help you cool off!  This is the Snow Happens line.  There are over 10 different bolts in stock in the line.

To make 8 half square triangles (HST) from 10 inch squares of fabric, put 2 ten inch squares right sides together, (after marking from corner to corner, the centre of the lighter coloured square) and sew 1/4 of an inch from that mid-mark line on both sides.

Cut through the seamed lines and also straight at 5 inches on the block, ( both across and up & down) lining up the points of the seam lines.

Your cut lines allow 8 HST!

A lot of different layouts are available with HSTs!  Make a test block from some of your stash fabrics and experiment with making HSTs this way.

Open but still disrupted! .....

Yes, Mrs P's is open this Saturday from 10AM to 1PM !
( 10Am to 4PM on Thurs & Fri )

It's also Amherst's 1st Biker Bash. I'm not sure what this will mean for Mrs P's, except I received word at 11am this morning, that the street in front of my business will be closed from this Friday at 8am until Sunday at 5pm.

This may affect your traffic pattern through town and unfortunately, parking. There are no simple solutions to this. Please bring your patience and a sense of humour when you come this weekend.

Repairs on the building are still ongoing and progressing well even with a bit of wet weather.  The shop is not back to 'normal', things are moved to make it easier for the repairs.

On the good news front, there's should be lots of bikes to look at and you may get inspired to create a quilt that is a bit out of your comfort zone! There are bikes with crisp angles or round curves.  Some will have polish, some will be original and vintage.  Look at the lines and how how the wheels are smooth.  See the difference in the handlebars and how many wheels can be on bike.  See the colours, look at the seats.   Just have a look around and then when you decide to make another quilt, let those images flow and see if you don't have either a different colour palette than you normally use or one piece of fabric that reminds you of the sights and sounds of the day.

Just because you are looking at morotorcyles does not mean you need motorcycles in your quilt.  It could be quilting circles that remind you of wheels or spokes radiating out.  It could be using a geometric pattern in your quilt block instead of a flower print.  It's your experience and perception of the event that translates out into your quilting.

Have a great weekend no matter what you decide to do!

Just a quick update ....

Saturday update....

This Sat, July 11, Mrs P's will be closed.

On Tuesday, July 14th, the shop will reopen at 2 PM and be open until 5 PM.  I have an appointment and I am not sure I can be in by 1PM. I think I can, but just in case, I'm delaying opening until 2PM. No matter the time of opening, I am there until 5 PM that day.  I appreciate your understanding & patience!

As those that live in town, are probably aware, the Clocktower that houses Mrs Pugsley's Emporium Inc has had some renovations this week and will continue over the next week!   As much as you can plan for disruption, it's still chaotic and just not the same.

There were new door sills and a new window sill installed...

Complete with the correct windows reinstalled on their new sill.

There is a lot of new fabric arriving in but it's also a wee bit of Christmas fabric!  After the winter we had, I was just not prepared to embrace it...especially this lovely blue & cream way called 'Snow Happens'...

This collection is from Artisian Spirit Sandscapes by Northcott which is a bit more summery...

Another new collection,  'Beach House' ...

Or... Beach Huts!

With cloud fabric as a coordinate, or ... More Beach Huts in a Row!...

And for the Dr Who fans... Packed Tardis...

Hoffman Christmas has arrived and there are some new Moda prints in as well.  Stof's Brilliant Christmas has also arrived.  Lots of new things to look at including the door step!

Enjoy your weekend!

A possible Bargello ?....

Lots of people have been in since the Bargello evening and that are experimenting and trying out 'colour-ways' that appeal to them.

One of the most important things, I think, we learned was- pick a Fabric and go up and down in value from that one.  The person looking at this for a colour way has the darker colours in their stash, so she's looking for colours on one side of her 'focus' fabric, or as Joy called it- ' a Zinger Fabric'!

Not everything in the picture is used or needed, you just need to be able to take the time and lay out or 'audition' your fabrics to make sure they all look good together.

Sometimes, we are a bit hesitant to take fabric into another store, as we haven't bought the fabric there.  Most fabric stores will allow you to audition your fabric with theirs, if you let them know what you are trying to do and why.  Check with the person working to see what they allow and don't allow.  Obviously, smokey smelling or dirty fabric will not be allowed in any store.

Your normal fabric swatches are lovely and work for most projects, but with a Bargello, you need a piece that shows well with the length of the bolts that you will be looking at.
