Awesome Quilt!...

It's here! The newest edition of Quilter's Connection!

And why is Mrs P's so excited?...

This marvellous quilt (in the background) ... 'Clare & Argyle' is one of the patterns featured!  Created (that means designed, physically made, pattern written, quilted, bound, magazine article written, photos taken and more) by Karen Neary; it on display at Mrs P's in Amherst until this Saturday!

The fabric used in the quilt is Indah Dyed Solids by Hoffman and Mrs P's has a few colours in stock...

Kudos, Karen!  It is a beautiful quilt with bold and vibrant quilting!  I think it is a pattern that is very 'now' and yet will still be a classic in years to come!

Remember, if you get the chance, please drop in and see the quilt and the magazine it is featured in!

Mrs P's also reminds you that we will be closing this Sat, Dec 19th 2015 for our annual Christmas Vacation.  We will re open as usual on January 5th 2016 at 1pm.  Happy Holidays to one and all!

Time for Colour! & More...

Mark April 11th on your calendars!  Karen Neary will be having a workshop at Mrs P's for her newest pattern Felicity!

The pattern is for a runner and placemat.  Karen used Spring Hare by Lewis & Irene for the pattern.

With Karen's permission, Mrs P's has the pattern available in a kit with all the fabric needed to make the table runner for $ 42.95 .  You do not need to use the same fabric.  It's a great chance to learn paper piecing, y seams and more by using your stash.  The pattern is available alone for $12.95.

This is also an ideal class for a person that knows how to sew, but not sure about beginning 'quilting'. A second kit is available with backing for the runner and silk batting for the runner for $59.95.  Below shows the fabric picked for the back.

There are only 10 spaces available and you need to contact Karen directly for registration.  There is a registration fee for the class of  $55 besides the kit/pattern prices. She has a new email address : karen@karenneary.ca

There is another date to mark on your calendar... a 'small' quilt show is coming Wednesday, April 29th to Mrs P's. It is entitled ' It's Time for Colour!'.  This Travelling Quilt Show is presented by the Canadian Quilters' Association/ Association de la courtepointe (CQA/ACC).  For now, you may find more info out here   http://cqacanadianquilting.blogspot.ca/p/blog-page.html

Now if only the snow would stop! :)

'Felicity' is coming soon ....

Just a quick blog post to let you that Mrs P's will be closed  this Sat March 7th and reopening Tuesday at its normal time of 1pm to 4pm.

As most are aware, Karen Neary from town is an amazing  quilt pattern designer, usually working with New York Beauty blocks.  She the artist that created that beautiful purple and orange quilt that graces one of the windows at Mrs P's.  She has also released a brand new book, 'Quilting Beauties In All Shapes and Sizes'.  She has been a true mentor to myself.  She also hates when I get over zealous in my praise of her!  :)

So without further ado, I'll show what she has created in time for Spring .... Felicity...

...  table runner and placemat pattern!  These are made with fabric that Mrs P's has called Spring Hare by Lewis & Irene.  The pattern can be downloaded through Craftsy or bought from Mrs P's.  I am working on getting the fabric kitted up.

I'll also be posting some 'buttons' so you can order individually or as a kit  off the blog.   It will take a bit of time, but I am working on it!  In the meantime, please feel free to email orders to mrspamherst@gmail.com and we can work out what you are looking for.

It's just a really sweet runner!  Like Spring, it is such a breath of fresh air!

A Wonderful Day!...

Wow!  Thanks to all who came out today for Karen Neary's book signing of 'Quilting Beauties Come in All Shapes & Sizes'!  It was a fun day!

It's so fabulous to be able to display these art pieces!  Sadly. My pictures do not do any of them justice.   On the other hand, Karen has agreed to have a couple of them on display for next week.  Copies of her book will also be available for $27.00 as well.

Stunning!

Mrs P's Fat Quarter swap was okay but a lot forgot to bring a trade item of fabric, so in honour of St Valentine's Day, ❤️ of fabric and the snow storm predicted...The FQ Swap table will be there for a bit next week.

As a quick note, Mrs P's has a new line in by Lewis & Irene...Make a Wish

So soft and springtime looking!

There are 15 bolts in the line.   Choosing a favourite will be hard!

To help make room for the new stock arriving, there is a table of fabric being offered from $6.95/m to 9.95/m.  The catch is, you must buy a minimum of 1 metre cut off that bolt to get the price.  Regular price will be charged for lesser cuts.

I hope you enjoyed your Valentine's Day!

It's here too!...

The Fall 2014 issue of Quilter's Connection magazine is here!  On the front cover is local pattern designer and free motion quilter, Karen Neary's spectacular New York, New York quilt! ( kind of poignant to be posting on today- Sept 11th )

Peeking out from behind those magazine covers is the actual quilt.  That's a really proud feeling for this quilt shop owner.  It's pretty neat to have both these on display together!  Remember, you could win this quilt for $10 on the NS Fibrefest draw in Oct or now....with the magazine, you have the ability to make one like it!

It's here!...

This lovely quilt by local and internationally renowned quilter, Karen Neary, is actually here at Mrs P's!

It's also the cover quilt of the Fall 2014 Quilter's Connection magazine....meaning that the pattern to create this luscious, New York Beauty quilt is inside.  The magazine is travelling at Canda Post speed towards Mrs P's and hopefully the print copies will be here next week.  If you do not want to wait or do not have access to this great CANADIAN quilting magazine! it can be downloaded from their site. www.quiltersconnection.ca    http://quiltersconnection.ca ( not sure the links will work but you can copy and paste if necessary)

Their magazine cover!  It's so pretty. The coolest part is, Karen has graciously allowed this quilt to be part of the prizes to be awarded in the Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival Pin-It draw.  The tickets may be purchased at a variety of fibre places around town ( and yes, Mrs P's has the tickets for sale :)

The money raised goes back into The FAF ( Fibre Arts Festival) budget.  Tickets are $10 each but you may also win one of 11 other prizes.  The quilt  is one of 2 Grand Prizes!  The other is a trip for 2 to New York City via Showcase Production Tours ( also from Amherst).  You will stay at the Muse Hotel and I think it is tour C-1 that you are on.  www.showcaseproductions.ca and pick the tour, Christmas on Broadway.   Mrs Pugsley's Emporium Inc is very happy to offer this as a prize on the ticket.

 http://www.showcaseproductions.ca/Theatre%20Tours/2014%20Tours%20PDFs/Brochure-Christmas-on-Broadway-2014.pdf

The tour is in recognition of Karen's other project, a new book! It's a book on New York Beauty Blocks and it's cover will look like this...

Mrs P's is hoping to launch this book as part of the FAF 2014 celebrations.  It really depends if the book is back from the printers and it up to the publisher not the author, so we live in hope it will work for FAF.

I want people to understand, Karen has put a lot of hard work and energy into making all these things happen together to give the Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival, this kind of publicity.  Writing a book on any scale is a daunting project, but to make a pattern book and have people actually make your samples and give you imput back to help tweak the pattern for the book and still keep it on track is amazing.  There's also the, 'wow, look what I created', but because you are under contract to the book publisher, you cannot show your work!   To a hugely talented artist as Karen, that had to be the worst part.

In addition to these accomplishments, Karen had a run on Craftsy.com ( an American based crafting site) where her Rhythmic pattern was the number one seller for a week or more.

You certainly need to be a dedicated business women to create this much hype and deliver!

Kudos Karen- you have worked hard this past year and hopefully this fall, all that hard work will deliver your book when you want it!

I'm so looking forward to the fun and creativity in the book!

Yes, this post is all about singing Karen's praises and recognizing what a moving force she is for both the Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival and the quilting world in general.  Awesome! Awesome!

For more on this proffesional quilt designer and artist, her web site is located at www3.ns.sympatico.ca/sewkaren/

...And her quilt sparked me back to blogging, which I've been terrible at over the summer.  Mrs P's is also on twitter occasionally under @MrsPsAmherst  ...
